Considered one of the shortest production vehicles runs in U.S. history - this Blaze-Red Pontiac MERA looks deceptively familiar - perhaps to the 308 Ferrari - but is much more rare!

Never heard of the MERA? Only produced in 1987 & 1988, the Pontiac MERA was a transformed dealer upgrade option. When the MERA was put on display at the 1988 Detroit Auto Show, GM, and the Pontiac dealer network were awestruck - but so was the American Distributor of Ferrari. In protest, Ferrari pulled their latest 308s and 328s from the show. The MERA continued to turn heads when it was featured in Car and Driver and Automotive News magazines.

With noticeably increased marketing efforts by the Pontiac Dealer network, Enzo Ferrari swiftly brought legal action for trade dress infringement, and although the suit was initially contested, the platform was canceled that year. Only 247 MERAs were ever built, making it one of the rarest production runs in U.S. automobile manufacturing.

MERA 8118 (198 "8" - car #118) is a time machine back to the 80's. It's not a kit car - but was an actual dealer upgrade when companies had the guts to clone their competitor's products in an effort to provide an affordable sportscar alternative.

This MERA is definitely not for the camera-shy. One of only 10 built with a T-Top and the upgraded leather interior, she attracts a lot of attention wherever she goes. She looks like her more extravagant stable-mate, but upon closer inspection, she draws out fascination with her spectacular history. Equipped with her original Italian Cromodora wheels re-sized for the MERA production run (another thing that PO'd Enzo), she sports a V-6 Turbo, spoiler, and original MERA badging.

It's no secret that every MERA has a story. Perhaps because it takes an "interesting" sort of event or project to showcase the uniqueness and stylishness of the MERA.
