1940 Woodie Surf Wagon
Hire this Woodie Surf Wagon 1940 for your event
The is a 1940 Ford Deluxe Station Wagon. These cars were originally used to move people and luggage from the train stations to hotels and resorts. A wagon for going to the station, hence these were the first station wagons. This was back when trains were still the main way to travel long distances. In the surf craze of the 1960s these cars were 20 years old and therefore somewhat affordable for a surfing teenager to acquire and they were big enough to stick surfboards through the back window or up on top. So they became associated with surfing on the coasts.
This wagon still has original maple wood and original Ford steel. It now has a modern electronic fuel injected engine and an automatic transmission for comfort and reliability. But on the outside she is 60's hot rod surf wagon complete with the louvered hood. The original seats are recovered in leather and lend themselves better to shorter drives. There are currently only front seatbelts. The boards on top were hand shaped for us by 60s surfboard legend Floyd Smith of Gordon/Smith and the surfboard rack is a one off custom design.
This car is a "driver" and we recently drove it from Maine to California. But it still cleans up nice for most any occasion. It is generally only available as a chauffeured vehicle, except for some limited self drive situations in controlled private settings such as for filming. When I drive it I can dress appropriately for the occasion. It normally holds two to three passengers but I can put in a third row seat for two more (moderate sized) people for an additional fee.
As a member and past president of the So Cal Woodie Club I can help provide additional woodies if needed.
